Saturday- I woke up around 5, got ready, paced around, woke up my husband, Corey, to get ready and left around 7am. As I entered, the convention, I had a nervous and very happy feeling inside; I was and am really proud of myself for having the courage to do this and sharing my artwork with different people. As I was setting up my table it was probably an hour and a half away before opening, I literally was trembling a bit because I was a bit insecure of my artwork and showing it off for the first time, it was hard for me to be at ease because I have never done this and I was thinking of the reactions I might receive. After the doors finally opened and people started walking by, I felt so happy because I saw so many people smile; and that was my goal with my artwork, to make people smile even if it was just for that one second. I had a lot of "cute" compliments. The one that made me say "whoa" to myself was when a lady said that my plushes look manufactured. All the plushes that I made are 100 % handmade by me, no sewing machine involved. Then a man said that he purchased my SDCC Giant Robot plushes in 2013, and I guess his questioned was answered to see who was making them. He told me he liked the quality of my plushes. Just with all the compliments and feedback that I received I can't say Thank You enough. It really means a lot to me that people like my artwork. Oh, and what also made me smile was seeing men smile, as well! ^____^
My neighbor
Jose Cabrera, is a really nice guy, he has great artwork too, and I actually did my first art trade ^___^ He told me some great advice and it will be with me forever. Thanks Jose!
6pm came by so quick! I just wanted to stay and see people smile.^___^
Sunday- I felt more at ease, not too nervous as I was on Saturday. Once again, a lot of smiles and compliments. I had a nice conversation with one of my customers, talking about Cons and a bit about my artwork. I was actually nervous, not sure why, but I am happy that he liked my artwork. He even emailed me today telling me he enjoyed meeting and talking with me! If you're reading this Mark, THANKS AGAIN! ^___^
I did hold a raffle for Westy, buttons, a necklace and charm. Somehow the person who retrieved it wasn't the one who actually got the ticket from me, I'm guessing it was her friend,? She was nice to get it for her though and come back to tell me that it wasn't her. I was able to take a picture of the actual winner.. pictured below. I like her hat. ^____^ To the lady who helped make sure she got the raffle prize ^____^ you rock!
A guy who was probably from Japan, still stuck in my head, bought Scout. It's exciting to know that Scout will be exploring a different land, hahahaha.
The highlight of Designer Con, was when this girl looked at Scout and could not keep her eyes off of it. She was asking her parents that she wanted it, but I didn't know what was going on, all I knew that she did not want to leave without Scout, I couldn't bare to look at her because she seemed a little frustrated about something, but in the end she was able to take Scout home, and I'm happy that she liked him a lot! So if you're reading this, thank you so much. Seeing you smile and determination of getting him makes me happy and humbled.
I also want to say thanks to Eric Nakamura, owner of
Giant Robot. He is my BIG BOSS! He's allowed me to make his logos into plush form and I'm happy that I'm able to make them. SO THANKS, DUDE! ^___^
Overall, I enjoyed Designer Con. It's given me an opportunity to share my art and just be out there. As Jose told me, if you don't put yourself out there, then who will? I also want to say big thanks to my husband for pushing me to do this.
There's probably a lot that I missed... but just know that I'm so thankful to meet everyone of you, and thank you for all the comments, compliments, etc ^____^
